The Fire Element of Summer

July 18, 2023 by Kachina Abeita Leave a Comment

As an extreme heatwave circles the globe it is no surprise that Fire is the element of summer. Beyond the blazing above 100º temperatures we are having now, looking to Chinese medicine, the fire element represents the season of action and the activities of the heart (circulation, joy, love, desire) and small intestines (acting with clarity of what is pure or true from the impure or untrue, what to assimilate and what to let go of). Mental activity called Shen, is associated with the heart and includes thought processes, memory, consciousness, sleep and emotional well-being. These mental activities all rely on the ability to make clear judgment, which is governed by the Small Intestine.

And in the world of plant medicine the flowering tops in the Lamiaceae family have an abundance of gifts for us as we balance between our choices of energy extending and energy conserving summer activities.

When the heat of this fire element is too strong Mints are the members of this family that can ease the build up of heat in our bodies as they are refreshing, uplifting and clarifying. Any one of these devas, Peppermint, Spearmint, Cornmint or Muna applied to the souls of our feet, nape of the neck, crown of the head or crook of the elbow instantly cools us down.

But thinking of Summer as a time of abundance, action & growth then the transformational aspect of Fire is associated with getting to the truth of what is important, what to put our energy into, where to apply our will to fulfill our desires. We certainly want to harness this energy with clarity for getting things done and for creating more joy in our lives.

Let’s consider how 3 of the flowering tops from the Lamiaceae family help you do that. Thyme Linolool, Lavandin Grosso and Hyssop will support you in getting clear with what you want & what actions you want to fuel. Let’s learn how they can also aid with symptoms of an unbalanced fire element which include heartburn, insomnia, agitation, nervousness, digestive upset, rashes and palpitations.

Thyme Linolool is a very gentle herb with fluffy soft white flowering tops. She offers the extreme energy of thyme without the fire. She gently helps us get unstuck, unblocked, releasing stagnation or trauma patterns. By understanding our subtleties she meets us at our own pace for transformation. Her message is, the universe is on your side. She’s here to help dissolve the myth of a punishing god.

Her chemistry includes the gentleness of Linolool and the killer energy of Thymol, as in a killer of micro-organisms. She is super anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, anti-viral, dissolver of mucus, anti-arthritic. Very good for calming muscle spasms including hiccups & cramps. Calms a gaseous belly. Thyme Linolool is known to alleviate respiratory distress ( can be used in a steam inhalation) and strengthen the immune system. She can stimulate the brain when used with a Rosemary. But is also the only Thyme that is calming for sleep.

(From Wisdom of the Earth, Thyme Linolool is: Anti-viral/fungal/parasite. Used for skin/scalp infections and issues (impetigo, psoriasis, warts), staph/strep, psoriasis, fear, and claustrophobia. Immune support. Nervine. Gentle.)

Lavandin Grosso is a natural hybrid offspring of Lavandula angustifolia & Lavender Spike. Generally, all lavenders and lavandins carry the Violet Flame vibration and encourage self love & self worth. Lavandin Grosso softens our edges if we feel defensive and a need to prove ourselves. She is vital for people pleasers or those who feel unappreciated. She settles us into our hearts to gather those parts that have been left behind and teaches us to suffer less. She has the capacity to aid us in releasing intergenerational pain and trauma.

Her chemistry is high in camphor making her more stimulating than the Lavenders. So it is better to apply her in the morning and not at night. The energetic aspect of expansion is beneficial for our respiratory system which is stressed by the extreme levels of heat and humidity in the air we breathe. Use Lavandin Grosso when you feel depleted. She is also a clearing agent and a strong pain reliever so is helpful for headaches.

(From Wisdom of the Earth, Lavandin Grosso is: Anti-viral/fungal/bacterial/septic. Releases your anxiety, fears, and pain. Used for colds, burns, bruises, insomnia, sciatica, ear nose, and throat harmony. Uplifts the spirit and makes us aware of the many levels of divine love.)

Hyssop is a holy herb, a spiritual plant used to connect with the Divine within us. Considered by some as the High Priestess of aromatherapy she is also known to aid us in our forgiveness work. She brings us back to balance when our emotions get overwhelming. Hyssop says, “I am centered within the chaos”.

Her chemistry is high in mono-terpenes indicating the capacity to repair our DNA. And high in ketones enabling her to address issues in the emotional body.
Hyssop is anti-microbial, highly anti-viral, stimulates circulation. Apply to the sternum over your heart for blood pressure or emotional issues. Layer with a Basil to reduce coughing.

(From Wisdom of the Earth, Hyssop is: Anti-viral, expectorant. Used for asthma, bronchitis, HIV, Herpes 1 & 2, Hepatitis A, B, C, anti-cancer, flu, cardiac, and blood purifier. Supports adrenals and balances mood swings. Cleanses emotions of angst, anger, grief, and shame. The Queen of Forgiveness, for ourselves and others. Emotionally and spiritually, helps us let go of our old stories so that we can write new ones. Connect to the Violet Flame.)

Layer all 3 on your belly to enhance the digestive (fire) or on the heart to relieve issues of heaviness or life’s pressures emotionally or physically.

Or take a drop of one single essence at a time on your palm, gently rub your hands together and slowly inhale. You will experience their chemistry directly in your body. Ask them for what you need.

If you are new to this trust that with practice, a quiet mind and attention to yourself you’ll sense your body’s response. If you choose to work with one or all of these plant friends this summer contact me to order them for you. They will teach you of their gifts and find ways to express their healing in you for balance and ease. Just ask.

In loving gratitude to my teachers, Siddiqa Salter and John Odom for the gift of their knowledge and wisdom teachings that I am passing on to you.

An Anointing

April 30, 2022 by Kachina Abeita Leave a Comment

An Anointing is a conscious act of blessing with intention, attention, and reverence for the anointed using high vibrational oils (sacred oils). It has ancient roots in many cultures and religions.

“What did you say you call this?”, he asked after agreeing to be anointed with essential oils.

“In general, Aromatherapy”, I answered. “These EOs are from Wisdom of the Earth and are in the category of medicinal quality aromatherapy.”

As a musician he understands, he actually lives in a world of vibrational expression through sound waves. The idea that plants and trees share their essence with us through their vibration was not a big leap for Sam.

“Plants are Alchemists.” The whole of the plant kingdom takes Light and alchemizes it into food & medicine for itself and for us through photosynthesis. When we anoint with the plant essences we take its particular chemical elixir of light into our bodies. And it’s higher vibrations of light uplift, balance, center, open, strengthen or protect us according to our need or deficiency. It brings us into resonance with it. Or spoken from the perspective that plants and trees are living beings, they brings us into resonance with their expression of light for our body’s wisdom to use as we need.

This 1st anointing happened during Sam’s 4th Feldenkrais lesson. He arrived still in recovery from a weekend gig of mixing sound for a cover band in which he slept less than 4 hours. In the previous lessons, we had been addressing posture, breathing to improve his singing and chronic low back stress from all the heavy lifting a sound man does to set up the band. On this day his nervous system was thin & ragged so I suggested we start with an anointing to bring peace and calm. He was quite open to the idea.

I had him smell Balsam Copaiba which calms and instills a peaceful tone. Then Frankincense which centers and deeply soothes. And finally, Lavender Highland 1200-1400 meters which is a very high vibrational lavender lifting any heaviness from us.

He chose the Balsam Copaiba and Frankincense. As we each focused on our breath and entered quietness  I placed several drops of Balsam Copaiba on the crown of his head and followed with Frankincense on his 3rd eye center and base of the neck.

I proceeded with a simple Functional Integration lesson with the intention to reestablish his physical sense of “Centering” and a deeper sense of nourishing the Self while releasing stress in the low back. Then the Cedarwoods called to be applied over his kidney/adrenal area. When we push ourselves into exhaustion the Cedarwoods, Spruces and other Conifers offer excellent support for our adrenals. Specifically, Cedarwood Atlas wanted to help Sam recover his energies after excess depletion.

He commented on feeling 100% better than when he arrived. The addition of the anointing to his regular Feldenkrais experience took him to another level of deepening his sense of Self.

All Spruced Up!

April 29, 2022 by Kachina Abeita Leave a Comment

“All conifers have a way of allowing us to hear Mother Earth’s call to our souls.”

These words from my first teacher of the Wisdom Of The Earth Plant & Tree Medicinal Essences comes to life every time I use a conifer. If you have ever entered the Cathedral atmosphere of a forest or even a small concentration of trees you have also felt the truth of this statement deep in your bones. When we can hear the call it is an invitation into our own Sacred Inner Space.

Of the Conifers, I am most compelled by ALL 7 varieties of WOTE’S Spruces.

All Spruces offer adrenal support therefore are great for stress reduction. They are also anti-inflammatory, offer Immune support., are anti-spasmodic and anti viral. But for me their greatest gift is their emotional/spiritual properties including centering & grounding.

One evening before taking a sunset walk All the Spruces called to me. Layering Black Spruce on the back of my neck and shoulders, Blue Spruce on my throat and upper chest, Norway Spruce over my kidneys, adrenals and  thyroid, Red Spruce on my back at the heart & sacrum level, Sitka over my bladder and chest just because I love her scent so much and White on the crown of my head & down my spine. I was All Spruced Up! Funny how this phrase implied being all shiny & sparkly and feeling good about oneself in the home I grew up in.

You may have already heard of FOREST BATHING. In a nutshell, there is now scientific evidence that in spending significant time walking, hiking, sitting in a forest your senses will be saturated with the sounds, smells & general calming atmosphere of “Nature” gifting us with various health benefits. So I had literally taken “A Spruce Forest Bath” without being in a forest. I then carried it with me into my neighborhood. These exotic guests offered a blessing by bringing the fragrance and spirit of their Canadian Spruce Family to Kessler Plaza in Oak Cliff in Dallas,Texas.

As I moved through the neighborhood I wondered how the other trees related to me carrying the scent & vibration of an unusual forest grove of half a dozen varieties of Spruce (Engelman was missing from my home Spruce collection that night).

But first, how was I relating to this community in and around me? Well, what was most curious was the simultaneous sensations of being Grounded AND Uplifted…indeed, like very tall trees. My energy was reaching deep into a serene sense of being at home in this place while feeling unburdened by the familiar stories we can allow to define us.

From within my own bloodstream the alchemy of the Spruces was affecting me through my energy field. There was the warmth & strength from the Black, the courage to be from the Blue, a sense of harmony from Norway, Red was stirring vitality, Sitka alway fills me with her joyful reminder of home and White uplifts my thoughts to a more positive realm.

Like all plants, trees receive light from the sun, stars & galaxies. Trees act as antenna for light energy.
They teach us how to survive earth changes by providing protector/guardian energy and they promote change at a safe pace.

More specifically:

White Spruce opens the channels of our 7th & 8th chakras & offers calming grounded encouragement in moments of stress. She is a true facilitator between the mind and the soul.

Sitka has the ability to calm us within our own physical bodies, so we can take time to ponder our bodies relationship to our emotional & spiritual evolvement. Practically speaking, she allows us to discern if we are centered enough to meet our needs on all levels.

Red Spruce asks us to live an impassioned life.

Norway is an uplifted for the darker days of winter. She offers hormonal support and to clear our hearts of spiritual & emotional debris.

Spruce Engelman helps get us in touch with our feminine side as she is soft, nurturing and gentle.

Spruce Blue opens the 5th chakra for communication to help us speak our truth in love.

Spruce Black addresses angst and our shadow side that is ready to come into the light.

She is a moon cycle regulator, helping to balance one’s cycles every month.  For pregnant women, Black Cumin Seeds promote breast milk production.

Cistus and Guaiacwood for Emotional Shelter

April 21, 2022 by Kachina Abeita Leave a Comment

Protect and Nurture a Healing Heart.

Rejection is not the original language of the Heart
yet it is known and can wound the sturdiest of hearts.
Loving deeply is its own gift.

Having your love received is its own fulfillment.
That love being rejected or abandoned can set one on a spiral of sadness.

Still raw within the first year of both my parents transitioning, only 3 months apart, some layers of grief began to peel away rather quickly. After an emotionally exhausting  day, ending in heart ache, I ran into the protective, energetic arms of Cistus also known as Rock Rose…then soon after, I globed as much Guaiacwood on my heart as I could and smoothed the rest all over my face. I was seeking, and ultimately did find,  emotional shelter  in the wisdom of these two essential essences.

The spooky thing about layering a recent loss, upon unsung, submerged losses, is what can happen when you touch upon someone else’s highly charged and activated layers of fresh grief.   Sometimes sparks fly!  Often tears must flow!

This is what happened that day with my beloved 11 year old goddaughter who’s parents had recently divorced. Trying to just be a kid, barely hidden, grief of loosing her home, her idea of family & her sense of her place in her world had brooded itself into unabashed emotional pain. All day long it lashed out to “scratch someone’s eyeballs out”, metaphorically speaking over and over again. She was practicing putting the blame of her pain onto something/someone else. And my heart gave way.

I remember her sincerity around the age of 2 when she wanted me to hit the wall for hurting her after accidentally running into it all by herself. Only now it was the whole foundation of her world that had collapsed from underneath her young life. And on this day, I was the closest beating heart that she could point her hurt at and because, I have loved her “no matter what”, I was the safe choice.

Like the wall, she didn’t expect me to lash back and I didn’t. But I was not prepared to accept responsibility for choices her parent wasn’t ready to take responsibility for.  “I love you no matter what” might have reached its limits if I had not immediately soothed my gaping heart’s wounds with Cistus & Guaiacwood. Wounds that were rooted in the complexity of the transition journey our family had undertaken together.

Cistus/Rock Rose has a clean, penetrating scent which boldly announces that “I am a protector, here for you now!” She strengthens our physical immune system but also awakens our capacity for emotional and spiritual immunity. Just to smell Cistus calms my mind and emboldens my spirit.

Guaiacwood has a sweet, smokey scent and is a powerful Love teacher helping us when grief and deep losses swell in our hearts.  She supports us during loss, struggles or times of stress and tension to help melt away worry and fear so that Love can come home. This Deva warms & moves energy from the inside out in order for the physical body to surrender to the spirit.

As I applied Guaiacwood over my heart, this thick and penetrative medicinal essence melted into me as I melted into her. The alchemy of Cistus’s strength & clarity with Guaiacwood’s deeply comforting warmth plunged me into the emotional shelter for which my cells were yearning, for longer than I realized.

I was then safe to sit with my deep rooted stories of loss, unfairness, being shunned, rejected or abandoned. There was now space between my old wounds and my nieces freshly gapping ones to see & feel into our souls agreement: to love and teach each other but not sacrifice the truth in our hearts. She needed my unconditional love to hold space for her hurt and I needed to release the ghosts of past pains to offer that level of love to myself as well as to her…and to demonstrate that I was not the cause of her pain…nor she mine. All I said to her is that, “One day I hope you will learn to separate who you know me to be and how you feel for me from what others want you to believe.”

When my mother and father transitioned, for her, it was her Grandma & Grandpa who died. Her multiple heart wounds came in quick succession at a young age where as mine were accumulated over time. Yet a spark ignited a healing at the level we each needed.

So with time (and a little Guaiacwood and Violet on her heart and Sweet Birch on her back) & lots of deep rooted love the essences softened us up towards each other with renewed mutual appreciation, clearer boundaries and stronger, healthier emotional immune systems!

The complexities of Love and Loss or Heart Wrenching Grief can be met by these dear Devas with their complex chemistry and healing frequencies.

Evolving my Handwriting, Enhancing my Signature

January 30, 2022 by Kachina Abeita Leave a Comment

In the 37 years since I studied with Moshe Feldenkrais right here in Dallas, the foundational philosophy supporting his Functional Integration and  Awareness Through Movement has been one of the most potent tools for self-exploration and transformation that I’ve embraced.

One of the many messages I took from Moshe was to find my own Handwriting. He knew his students would have the flexibility of mind to bring to The Feldenkrais Method unique nuances and perspectives that would distinguish each individual’s approach. In equating this to the originality of one’s handwriting, I feel Moshe gave his blessing to add flare to my Signature without changing the Feldenkrais “alphabet”. For  a solid foundation of the Feldenkrais Method® we have Moshe’s books and recorded materials to refresh his genius in the world.

As to evolving my handwriting…it has been my life’s journey of following my heart, leading with curiosity and allowing time for the alchemy of interest and attention to reveal it’s evolving nature. Each new skill I’ve acquired opens another dimension of perception and new avenues into the understanding of the complexity of each individual that I am blessed to assist.  I wish to use this platform of INSPIRED MUSINGS  to present to you some of the knowledge and insights from the various influences in my professional life as a Feldenkrais Practitioner, a Medicinal Aromatherapist, an Empath, Somatic-Remixer and an explorer of our Body/Mind/Heart/Soul connection.

So, I thank you in advance for your precious time and attention.

Sweet Medicine Alignment

April 11, 2021 by Kachina Abeita Leave a Comment

Silver Ra Baker describes the Symbolism in his art piece, “Sweet Medicine Alignment” as follows,

“The Mayan symbol, in the center,

is called the Hunan Ku which translated means “All Life Beyond our Sun”

and the Feathered Wing Serpent Dragons

which are Teachers of the Light on each side.

The Four Macaws represent Sweet Medicine Animals.

The Animals Provide Blessings of Receptivity and Openness.

The Alignment is Through the Hunub Ku

Up into the Space betweenPleiades on the Right and Sirius on the Left.

To the Right of the Rays is the Benevolent Moon.

1995

What about this symbol spoke to me?

I was born in the Chinese Year of the Dragon and am a Water Dragon. So having these winged serpent dragons as Teachers of the Light  in my healing room felt like a big blessing.

My late mother raised Red Macaws and to learn that they represent Sweet Medicineand offer blessings of Receptivity & Openness for me and my clients was so heart warming and reminiscent of my mother’s healing ways!

And the Hunub Ku spoke to me of a Key or Portal or Gateway and I wished for that energy of opening to the life within us, beyond our limited knowing, that offers the possibility of deep healing for the people who chose to work with me.

I am so grateful to Siver Ra Backer for creating such a beautiful, powerful image of symbols that speck so directly to my soul.
